5 Common Objections You May Have to Cybersecurity Services

As user error is more common in firms everywhere, one of the hardest factors to manage is cybersecurity. Unfortunately, a lot of small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) that engage with managed service providers (MSPs) feel they are safe and secure and don't take the necessary security measures.

Many small-and-medium-sized businesses (SMBs) are not sufficiently knowledgeable about best practices for preventing IT security breaches. As a result, they believe that they shouldn't worry too much about their businesses, which makes them opposed to having an MSP on their side.

We want to assist SMBs in defining and enhancing their IT security strategy and navigating the complex cybersecurity environment as an MSP. After all, it is our goal to safeguard, assist, and inform our customers. To achieve this, we must address their concerns with the truth and assist them in changing their perspective on what it means to achieve a business-grade security posture.

Here are five typical criticisms of cybersecurity services, along with our responses.

1. “My IT team has me covered.”

Cybersecurity is a field in which ignorance is not bliss. What our clients don't know could harm them. The best thing we can do as an MSP is communicate with our clients frequently and openly.

We clearly explain to them what services we do and do not cover. In order to help them understand their security situation and how vulnerable they are, we conduct security evaluations at least once a year.

We also make sure to inform our clients about the precautions they must take to secure their network. Give your staff the tools and training they need to integrate some fundamental cybersecurity precautions into daily life. For instance, keep bringing up the value of using secure passwords.

Although IT teams are excellent sources of security, you can take a lot more proactive steps. In order to inform and empower your team members, it is crucial to develop a cyber-safety procedure for your business. The first step in defending your SMB from cyber-attacks is for you to take responsibility for doing so.

2. “I don’t have the budget for security services.”

It makes sense that many organizations, especially smaller ones, are extremely cost-conscious and may assume they don't have enough room to add reliable cybersecurity services to their list. The cost of cybersecurity services pales in comparison to the amount needed to recover from a hack.

According to estimates, a cyberattack might cost a small organization $2.98 million on average. That much is more than enough to put a small firm out of business, and it only takes one attack to cost that much.

Making a budget for a company is a difficult but vital task, but SMBs must give cybersecurity services top priority. The alternative could result in total corporate loss.

The price of cybersecurity services may appear high, but it is significantly less expensive than the alternative—a data breach. If you're interested, we'd be pleased to go over some different plans that might fit your budget better.

3. “My data is not important to bad actors.”

It's simple to believe that the only data that's valuable to steal belongs to big businesses. That is not, however, the case. Every business has valuable data, whether it is records of its employees, information on its clientele, or financial information.

The key point to keep in mind is that hackers are more interested in acting on how valuable a piece of information is to a business than they are in getting someone's personal information. In other words, they seek to hold data hostage until they get a substantial payment to release it.

The average ransom payment is now about $812,000, up 60% from the previous quarter. According to statistics, a ransom attack occurs every 14 seconds.

The issue at hand extends beyond a ransom payment. What would it cost your company if you are breached and are unable to access their systems or data? Can you go without access for five days? Once more, the effects of a random ransomware assault may be enough to drive a company to fail.

Everyone's business has information that is valuable. Even if you don't think your data is significant, malicious actors can hold it against your will until they are paid to return it. Although it seems absurd, it does occur. Cybersecurity services are the most effective strategy to stop the loss of data and money.

4. “A cybersecurity attack won’t happen to me.”

Nobody wants to think that they will be the target of an attack. SMBs may believe that their size or lack of notoriety makes them less susceptible to a cyberattack, but any company with a digital presence is a potential target.

According to a recent ConnectWise study, 76% of SMBs worldwide reported experiencing a cyberattack in the preceding year. That figure is alarming and is undoubtedly going to increase.

The unfortunate truth is that we are all susceptible, thus we must all take the necessary precautions to protect ourselves online.

Every company with a digital presence is vulnerable to cyberattacks. In fact, an attack was recorded by 2/3 of SMBs globally in the previous year.

I would never want it for your business or any SMB, for that matter. It is critical to protect your company and data with cybersecurity services while that figure keeps rising.

5. “My firewall (or other technology) is enough.”

Businesses that depend too heavily on one piece of technology to keep them secure are playing a risky game. Before making an attack, the typical hacker spends 197 days on a network. Your antivirus won't be able to accomplish the job by itself.

The truth is that to truly safeguard your business, a great technological stack, expert security services, AND employee best practices are all necessary. Here is when the puzzle piece of education becomes very important. Businesses need to be aware of their responsibilities, those of their MSP partner, and the scope of what their software can and cannot handle.

A company needs to have an incident response plan in place after making it extremely difficult for anyone to access their system. This will help mitigate and recover from an attack.

The best method to safeguard your company from an attack is to use cybersecurity services in addition to your firewall, MSP services, and other security measures. Regrettably, your firewall and other equipment might not be sufficient to ward against a significant cyberattack.

Conclusion

Cyberattacks have become the new standard in the world we live in. Because of the increase in attacks, cybersecurity services are now essential for businesses.
