Building a Culture of Security For Remote Employees

If you don't remember anything else from this blog post, remember that security is a vital part of organizational culture, especially because the pandemic changed every part of the way we work.

In this post, you'll learn all about the key steps that you and your security team can take to ensure that strong security culture is implemented within your organization.

Here are our five top tips for keeping security a relevant topic of discussion in the workplace, whether it's virtual or in-person.

1. Build a security resource library.

Including security information in your onboarding process is a great step to implement. By executing these guidelines, you set the standard for all future employees. Other documentation is also a good idea to introduce in order to continue education throughout your business.

2. Employees must be made aware of how important security is to the organization and how it impacts their work.

Discussing how your business' security will affect each individual employee's job is another great way to ensure that they stay invested in the protection of your company. By highlighting the aspects of their lives that would change, they will be more inclined to spend time learning about the part they play in the cybersecurity of your business.

3. As you educate employees tie it into personal learning.

Next, you should stress the benefits that this education will add to each employee's personal lives. It will make sure that they will become good digital citizens, and will improve organizational health as well as job performance.

4. Encourage employees to apply what they've learned.

Security education programs and periodic simulations are great ways to continue education within the workplace. This encourages the application of the coaching your team has received. We recommend that departments and employees that successfully alert you to real, or simulated, incidents should be recognized.

5. Security culture is inseparable from the values of your organization's leadership.

Last, but certainly not least, educating your employees on the safety of cybersecurity starts at the top. This includes stakeholders and all other kinds of senior leadership. These changes will trickle down into all lower-level employees and completely transform the cultural atmosphere of the company, ensuring that these alterations will make a lasting impact.
